Drumroll Please....
My Sci-fi teacher just gave me "The List". And today in class it was homo-tastic! We talked about homosexuality in 1950's movies and we even read some actual governmental documents from the '50s that stated that homosexuals couldn’t be trusted...

We're studying how Sci-fi movies can actually tell us a bit about that time.
Like in 'Them!', which is a movie about ants growing due to radiation, this book points out how the 'Ants' could represent Communiusm or Females. Communiusm because how the ants all seem to be autotomotons. And Women 'cause of the Queen's rampant egg laying. They figuar that it was a story with a 'moral': Communisums is going to destoy us, if promusuicus women don't first.
Now i liked 'Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust' only because that it had a 'Forbidden Love'.

Queer Horror Looks at Queers in The Horror Movie.
Hey Brian,
Have you seen Far From Heaven with Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid? It is fantastic, made to honor the 1950s era movie, specifically in the style of Imitation of Life with Lana Turner. I think you'd like it. It takes all of the subtext and subtlety of those 50s movies, the homoeroticism and racial issues, and women's issues and brings them to the forefront of the plot. It is also a visually beautiful movie.
Smiles,
Michelle
No i haven't...
I never really thought that i would like the older movies, but some (especially those in The Celluloid Closet) have gotten my attention. I went to best buy not even an hour ago to find "The Children's Hour" but they didn't have it. That one is something i'm going to have to watch most certainly. About the only movie that i could remember that was on The Celluloid Closet and was at best buy was Thelma & Louise... I wish they had some of the older movies there, i might have to find another place that sells movies... I know that we have a FYE at the mall... but other then that i haven't a clue where i might be able to buy older movies.
Wait! i bet borders' have the classics!
So "Far From Heaven", i'm going to have to remember that when i go back. I'm assuming that it isn't too old, so maybe it's at the local video rental place. (too old for star video [rental place] > 1990)
But so far those older movies i've seen in both my Sci-fi class & The Celluloid Closet seem to be something that i'd enjoy. Especially those in The Celluloid Closet, 'cause i'd be playing "find the homosexuality" throughout the movie.
Far From Heaven was only out like 2 years ago. And oh my god! I loved The Children's Hour. There was an interview with Shirley McLain in the Advocate sometime last year when it was the anniversary of the movie. Apparently there were some scenes that were shot but edited out of the final cut because they were way to controversial at the time of release.
I love old movies, always have, there is something to their subtlity.
Enjoy.
The Celluloid Closet had Susie Bright talking about The Children's Hour and she totally sold me on it. I actually looked on borders' website, and found it at one of the Tulsa's Borders. So as soon as i get some money and time i'm going to pick it up.
I also cross-referenced some of the movies on TLA Video's website, and found some of those at Borders. 2 movies that i seen on TLA, however, were only at the Norman's Borders and i have no idea how to get to Norman.
Maybe i can request that the Tulsa's Borders snag the copies of "One Nation Under God" and "Hell House" from Norman.
